MB Productions Tapped for Rolling Stone Magazine 1000th Issue Party

MB Productions (MBP), in association with Overland Entertainment and Live Nation, was selected as the video specialist to support Rolling Stone magazine’s 1000th issue with a bash at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City on May 4.

For the standing room only party, MBP mounted a 22’x8’ screen featuring a series of images tracing back to each top selling Rolling Stone issue since 1967, using a Digital Projection Lightning 28sx DLP Projector. This large wide screen flowed in and out between the live sets of music as images morphed every few seconds to reveal the next cover. The eclectic crowd of celebrities, Rolling Stone staff, and special guests took a trip back in time as over three hundred images of past issues flashed before their eyes. Guests received a special collector’s edition of the 1000th issue featuring a neo-psychedelic, pseudo-Sgt. Pepper holographic, 3-D cover.

MB Productions helped design, engineer, build and configure the flat panels. Sony donated 18 LCD sets from their newest brand line, Bravia, including the 40”, 32”, and 26” models. The 40” (KDL-V40XBR1) monitors were configured into a 3’x3’ video wall running a video loop of the official sponsors, Sony, Heineken, and Target. The 32” (KDL-V32XBR1) and the 26” (KDL-V26XBR1) were set-up as three individual monitor “totem poles,” consisting of an 8’ high free standing vertical truss, supporting three monitors.

Live entertainment included the founder of Rolling Stone, Jann Wenner, jamming with singer John Mellancamp; Paul Shaffer and the Letterman band; and legendary king of rock and soul, Solomon Burke. The Strokes and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder played a rendition of their recent hit single “Juicebox,” and Lou Reed joined in for a collaboration of his classic “Walk on the Wild Side.”
