Mattieu Larivée To Speak About Video Mapping At LDI

Montreal's visual designer Mattieu Larivée, known for his lighting design on Amaluna, Cirque du Soleil’s latest touring production and the lighting design at the Pyramids in Cairo, just to name a few of his credits, has been invited to speak at LDI2013 in Las Vegas from November 22 to 24.

The panel will focus on stage video mapping, while Larivée’s topic will mainly pinpoint the use of technology in a creative mission.

This is a result of an article published in Live Design in the summer 2013 about the innovative video mapping project created by Larivée and his team at Luz Studio, for the theatrical play L’amour, la mort, le prêt-à-porter showcased at Théâtre du Rideau Vert in Montreal.

This video mapping was projecting images directly on the models, making them the decor of the play.

"What was unique about this project was making sure that the projections married the shape of the models, which are intended to be unconventional. To achieve this, we used the Autodesk 123D Catch application from my iPhone. This project was a breakthrough since it allowed us to achieve these projections with a very low budget. This means that the video mapping does not only apply to wealthy productions. Finding technological tools on the market to overcome our idea is the key,” explains Larivée.

With video mapping, the team at Luz Studio put up a projection on a Bombardier Global 6000 plane for its launch. To view a short clip of this event:https://vimeo.com/71424232

Speakers include Toon Servaes, Technical sales & support manager at ArKaos and Philip Mayer from the design company Immersive.
