Live Design Honors Shakespeare In The Park Will Feature Distinguished Panel Of Designers

Lighting designers Jules Fisher, Natasha Katz, and Jennifer Tipton, scenic designer Eugene Lee, sound designer Dan Moses Schreier, sound designers Tom Clark, Mark Menard, and Nevin Steinberg from Acme Sound Partners, plus others yet to be confirmed, will all participate in a special panel discussion paying tribute to “The Design Aesthetic of The Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park,” in honor of the Public Theatre’s 50th anniversary. The panel is part of a special benefit evening on Monday, May 22, 2006, 7pm, at the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University.

This event marks the inaugural Live Design Honors, in which the magazine pays tribute to a group of outstanding individuals and the collaborative spirit of these designers who work together to create memorable and innovative productions. This year’s award goes to The Public Theatre for the outstanding body of design presented over the years at Shakespeare in the Park. The panel provides the opportunity to hear about some of the design challenges, obstacles, and solutions, as well as the memories of working at the Delacorte over the decades.

Live Design is hosting this event as a special benefit for The ESTA Foundation’s Behind the Scenes, a new initiative that will provide members of the entertainment technology industry with grants for emergency situations, such as serious illness, injury, or death. A silent auction at the event will raise money for Behind the Scenes. The evening includes a cocktail reception at 7:00pm, with the panel and award presentation at 8:30pm.

The May 22 event takes place in conjunction with Live Design’s annual Broadway Lighting Master Classes at The Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York University, 566 LaGuardia Place, New York, NY.
