LEDS Make a Fashion Statement

Every year Birmingham, England’s NEC is transformed into the world’s biggest fashion and beauty spectacular, the Clotheshow Live!, in a 5,500-seat fashion theatre that was awash with the glow from Pulsar’s LED ChromaRange.

The initial creative idea was sparked from the Production Team's lighting director Ben Fox, who suggested the need for light from within the stage and catwalk runway. The light within the runway "stalks" the models as they made their way down the catwalk.

After working with the lighting and set design on the Clothes Show for the past 12 years, LD Paul Devine’s wealth of experience contributed greatly to the practical side of the design concept and recommended using Pulsar's ChromaRange based on previous experience with the fixtures and opted for the ChromaPanels and ChromaHeart MR16 fittings. "We had to work around the fact that the stage and runway was custom-made and that the light fittings would have to work in around that," Devine comments.

To turn the choreographer’s idea into reality, Devine decided to use 132 of the ChromaPanel 600s in the runway. He installed them in three rows of 44 lengths to pave the catwalk. The Panels were also programmed to dance to the music and chase the models down the runway.
