Landry & Bogan, Inc., Theatre Consultants announced the passing of founder Paul Landry, 82, on Saturday, October 30th, 2004.
Educated at the University of California and Carnegie Mellon, Landry began consulting on theatre design and construction in the early 1960s, one of the first professional theatre consultants. He founded Paul Landry & Associates in 1965 while on the theatre faculty at Stanford University. In 1971 architect Jack Bogan joined the firm which became Landry & Bogan, and then Landry & Bogan, Incorporated in 1998.
Landry and Bogan consulted on such well-known venues as UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall and Playhouse, the Bowmer Theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (with Richard Hay as project designer), three theatres at the Old Globe in San Diego, and with the Utah Shakespearean Festival, South Coast Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, and on hundreds of educational and civic theatres throughout the West.
His final project before retirement was for the New Theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, with Richard Hay, which opened in 2002. In addition to his consulting practice, Landry was a mentor to Heather McAvoy and Rose Steele, who are current principals of L&B with Jack Bogan.
