ICIA Announces Post-Secondary Education Scholarships for 2004/2005

FAIRFAX, VA--- The International Communications Industries Association, Inc. (ICIA), premier trade association for the professional audiovisual communications industry, has announced the availability of $60,000 in scholarship funds for college and high-school students for the 2004/2005 academic year.

The post-secondary education scholarships are designed to address the need of the professional audiovisual (AV) and communications industry for a high-quality workforce. They are awarded to college and high school students, and dependents of employees of ICIA member companies, and administered by the International Communications Industries Foundation (ICIF).

The Foundation, an arm of ICIA, is a non-profit charitable and educational organization chartered to support the audiovideo industry. Endowed in 2000 with $1.2 million to fund scholarships for students and AV industry workers, it continues to receive contributions from leading AV industry organizations to assist its scholarship programs. Since 2001, ICIF has awarded over 50 scholarships for post-secondary education.

This year's awards are offered in amounts of $2,500 to college seniors completing bachelors degrees or students in their final year of study for associate degrees, $1,500 to dependents of employees of ICIA member companies, and $500 to high school seniors. The college-level scholarships include assistance in finding paid internships, a requirement of the award.

To be eligible, students must be majoring in audiovisual subjects or related fields, including audio, video, telecommunications, electronics, technical aspects of the theater, data networking, software development and information technology. Students with other majors may be considered if they can demonstrate a relationship to career goals in the AV industry.

The deadline for applying for the scholarships is March 31, 2004. Award decisions will be made by a panel of AV industry leaders, based on their examination of the applications, grade point averages, work experience where applicable, and letters of recommendation. Application packets, including additional detailed information, can be found on the ICIA Web site at www.infocomm.org/foundation/scholarships.
