Free Hearing Screenings at AES

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the House Ear Institute (HEI) will co-sponsor free hearing screenings for attendees during the 113th AES Convention, which runs from October 5-8 in the Los Angeles Convention Center. The free hearing screenings will be offered all four days of the convention, and will be open one hour before the show opens each day to accommodate exhibitors who wish to have their hearing checked. Four people can be screened simultaneously in the mobile audiological screening unit located at the House Ear Institute's booth #1881.

Individuals who wish to make advance reservations can do so by using the sign-up sheets posted at the unit. For more information on the screenings, attendees can visit the House Ear Institute's booth or refer to the convention program, which will be available at the registration area located in the South Hall lobby of the convention center.

The convention will also offer a hearing protection workshop on "Protecting Your Hearing Against Loss: Assessment of Functional Hearing Ability in Noise." This special workshop (W8) presented by HEI staff, will be held from 3-6pm on Sunday, October 6. It will present music and audio production professionals with methods for reducing exposure to noise-induced hearing loss and assessing their functional hearing abilities. Featured speakers are Dilys Jones and Sigfrid Soli, Ph.D., director of human communication sciences and devices at the House Ear Institute.

The House Ear Institute and its Sound Partners program will also be featured as a recipient of proceeds from the 18th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards. The TEC Awards will be held at 6 pm on Monday, October 7, 2002, at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, Los Angeles.
