ED Unveils Staging And Projection Products Of The Year

Entertainment Design

, the magazine dedicated to the design professional, has announced this year’s Staging and Projection Product of the Year honorees. The five winners, picked by a panel of projection and staging specialists, will be honored at this year’s EDDY Awards, to be held Friday, June 18 at John Jay College Theatre in New York.

The winners, which will be featured in the April issue of ED, are:

Barco MiPIX Intelligent LED Pixel Block
"The Barco MiPIX breaks the mold for LED imaging with separation and shaping," say the judges. "The MiPix offers designers a flexibility for screen shape that goes all the way to 3D and see-through."

High End Systems Catalyst DL1 Digital Light
"With big bonuses like dimming irises (goodbye video black!), and High End’s robust stepper motor technology inserted into the lens train," say the judges, "this is not your daddy’s projector."

Hoffend and Sons Vortek Rigging System
"Vortek has not only managed to make motorized pipes intelligent, but it may also spell the end of counterweight rigging, a feat that cannot be overestimated," say the judges.

Stage Technologies Visual Creator Software
This "remarkably intuitive" 3D visualization software "greatly expands the notion of what can be moved where on the stage," say the judges.

Vista Systems Montage Video Processor
"With all of the functionality and tactile surfaces found on a powerful broadcast video switcher," say the judges, "this unit offers programmers a totally superior mode of working."
