The 2007 Live Design Master Classes will be held in New York City the week of May 15-20, 2007, with the 13th annual Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) scheduled May 15-17, plus a special Projection Master Classes component on May 18, and the 5th annual Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) on May 19 & 20.
Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jules Fisher will once again serve as creative consultant for the BLMC, heading up a faculty of the leading LDs on Broadway today. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 15-17, in the auditorium at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (located at the corner of Washington Square South and La Guardia Place, Manhattan), with final sessions on projection design as the perfect segue to the Projection Master Classes component on Friday, May 18, featuring top projection designers working on Broadway today. The manufacturer’s showcase for the BLMC will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16, in the fourth floor Eisner Lubin auditorium at NYU’s Kimmel Center, upstairs in the same building as the BLMC classes.
Abe Jacob, the legendary “godfather” of sound design returns as the creative chair of the BSMC, as the leader of a top-notch roster of today’s best Broadway sound designers. The BSMC sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 for the second year at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (721 Broadway, Manhattan).
Attendees to the BLMC and BSMC will attend a Broadway production whose lighting and sound will be discussed by the designers as part of the Master Classes curriculum.
The Master Classes week will also include the second annual Live Design Honors, a special event and benefit (including a silent auction) for The ESTA Foundation’s Behind The Scenes initiative. This year’s Live Design Honors will be held on Tuesday evening, May 15, 2007 in the Rosenthal Pavilion at NYU’s Kimmel Center.
