Beebe, Lachman, Ballhaus, Edelman, and Hall Nominated for Cinematography Oscars

Period films dominated the cinematography category when this year's Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. DPs getting nods were Dion Beebe for Chicago, Edward Lachman for Far From Heaven, Michael Ballhaus for Gangs of New York, Pawel Edelman for The Pianist, and Conrad L. Hall for Road to Perdition. Among them, Hall, who died recently and who was a grand of man of filmmaking, is a sentimental favorite. Lachman's work won an award from the New York Film Critics' Circle. Ballhaus is, of course, a regular collaborator of Gangs' director Martin Scorsese. Beebe's highly praised work was achieved with the help of theatrical LDs Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, who lit each of Chicago's musical numbers. Below is a complete list of design nominees.
