Abbey Rosen Holmes Helms PMC@LDI

Abigail Rosen Holmes, partner and principal designer at NYX Design, will take over for Bob Bonniol of MODE Studios as creative consultant for the Live Design Projection Master Classes (PMC@LDI) at Full Sail in Orlando, during LDI2011 on October 26 and 27. Holmes is an Emmy-nominated designer whose work spans the disciplines of concert, television, special events, and corporate to include lighting, video, and production design.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be filling in for the amazing Bob Bonniol at this year’s Projection Master Classes at LDI,” says Holmes. “The program has a great line-up of industry leaders, including both designers and sponsoring manufacturers, and will look in-depth at some fantastic recent projects. I’m looking forward to being part of a detailed exploration of this exciting and rapidly developing field, as well as leading a lively debate on the direction of its future development.”

“It was with a heavy heart that I had to back out of the Projection Master Classes at LDI this year—nothing more interesting or controversial than a scheduling snafu,” says Bonniol. “However, I am definitely leaving the classes in exceptional hands. Abbey is not only a valued colleague, but a good friend, and I couldn’t trust her more to bring to the classes the same level of professionalism, knowledge, and passion for the industry that I try to bring each year. I’m proud to pass the leadership of the classes to her this year.”

Holmes’ design credits include concert lighting for The Cure, Cher, Janet Jackson, Shakira, Martina McBride, Pet Shop Boys, Peter Gabriel, and Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus; video design for The Cure and Martina McBride; and projection and lighting for Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She recently lit LG Thrill Presents Jane’s Addiction Comes Alive and the YouTube Play Biennial Event at the Guggenheim Museum.

Shows Holmes has lit for camera include Martina McBride–Waking Up Laughing for PBS Great Performances, Roger Waters’ The Wall in Berlin in 1990, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit for PBS, Philadelphia’s July 4th Concert from 2009 to 2011 for WPVI and BET, Fox’s New Year’s Eve Live from Times Square, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus Best Of Both Worlds 3D Concert Film for Walt Disney Pictures, Shakira’s Oral Fixation and Sale El Sol concert DVDs, and The Cure’s Trilogy DVD.

Holmes was associate professor of lighting at Carnegie Mellon University from 2009 to 2011 and a senior show lighting designer at Walt Disney Imagineering from 1991 to 1995. She received her BA in Art from Brown University.

From projectors and projection mapping to case studies of incredible projects to a showcase of the latest gear, the PMC@LDI provides intermediate to advanced training for those working in lighting and projection design. Newbies should take LDI’s Projection 101 (For Newbies) on Tuesday, October 25 as an intro to these classes.
