John and Helen Meyer Scholarship Announced

The John and Helen Meyer Scholarship to the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) will be available to promising sound designers from around the world. A total of six—two undergraduate students, two graduate students, and two recent graduates (1-3 years out of school)—are eligible.

Scholarship includes entrée to the BSMC and a special badge to wear during the classes. Winners will also be singled out during the Saturday reception. Travel and accommodations are not included.

"Theatre sound is at the very roots of Meyer Sound. John Meyer was working with Broadway sound designers even before the company was founded three decades ago, and we have been fortunate to collaborate with many exceptional sound designers and operators. This scholarship gives us a wonderful opportunity to help cultivate the next generation of theatre sound talent," notes Helen Meyer.

Candidates will be selected by BSMC creative consultant Abe Jacob, Live Design, and Meyer Sound. Candidates must submit a resume and a short, 300-500-word essay on why they want to attend the classes. Chosen candidates will be expected to blog about their experience for the Live Design and Meyer websites.

“Meyer Sound has been a strong supporter of the BSMC since day one, and we’re thrilled to partner with them further with the John and Helen Meyer Scholarship,” says Live Design publisher David Johnson. “We applaud their commitment to the next generation of theatre sound designers with this endeavor.”

Interested candidates should submit a resume and essay by Monday, April 4, to [email protected]
