The 2012 BSMC John and Helen Meyer Scholarships

The 2012 John and Helen Meyer Scholarship to the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) is available to promising sound designers from around the world. A total of six—two undergraduate students, two graduate students, and two recent graduates (1-3 years out of school)—are eligible. This is the second year that the scholarships will be awarded, thanks to the generosity of Meyer Sound. The 2011 scholarships were awarded to David Corsello, Alyssha Iishi, William Fallon, Daniel Lundberg, Joshua Reid, and Jessica Weeks, a mix of students and young professionals.

Candidates will be selected by BSMC creative consultant Abe Jacob, Live Design, and Meyer Sound. All candidates must submit a resume and a short, 300-500-word essay on why they want to attend the classes. Chosen candidates will be expected to blog about their experience for the Live Design and Meyer websites. Scholarship includes entrée to the BSMC and special mention of Meyer Sound on their BSMC badge. Winners will also be singled out during the Saturday reception. Travel and accommodation is not included.

“Broadway Sound Master Classes provides a great opportunity for those with a passion for theatrical art and a drive to learn from the industry’s best. Meyer Sound is pleased to continue our support for the program and the scholarship winners. We look forward to hearing their work on Broadway and beyond,” says Helen Meyer, executive vice president, Meyer Sound.

“Meyer Sound has been a strong supporter of the BSMC our first year, and we’re are extremely proud to further that relationship with the second annual Meyer Sound BSMC Scholarships,” says Live Design publisher David Johnson. “We applaud their commitment to the next generation of theatre sound designers with this endeavor.”

Interested candidates should submit a resume and short essay (about their commitment to sound design) by Friday, April 13, by emailing Ellen Lampert-Greaux.
