Live Design Projection Master Classes To See Rock Of Ages

The 5th annual Live Design Projection Master Classes will be rocking on May 21, 2009 with a full day of informative sessions about projection design and technology, paired with a performance of the new Broadway musical, Rock Of Ages in the evening. This is the first time the Projection Master Classes will include a performance as part of the schedule, as projection is becoming such an integral part of the Broadway experience.

Rock of Ages is set in 1987 on LA’s famous Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the 1980s—from Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake, and many more. The New York Post says, “Rock Of Ages does for 80s rock what Mamma Mia! did for ABBA.”

“It is really a fun show,” says Zachary Borovay, projection designer for Rock of Ages. “It is a totally different marriage of video and lighting than my previous work, but makes for an interesting conversation about how to converge rock and roll lighting and video with traditional theatrical storytelling.” Lighting designer Jason Lyons will join the discussion of how the lighting and video go hand-in-glove.

Borovay’s recent credits include: To Be or Not To Be (Broadway), Les Misérables (national tour), A Catered Affair (Broadway; Drama Desk nomination), Radio City Music Hall’s 75th Christmas Spectacular, Xanadu (Broadway). Upcoming: Peepshow at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas, and Nerds on Broadway. He also teaches projection design at Long Island University and is a member of USA829.

Lighting designer Jason Lyons has designed productions of The Threepenny Opera; Barefoot in the Park; Good Vibrations; Clay; It’s Only Life; Rafta, Rafta…, Two Thousand Years; Body Awareness; Scarcity; The Piano Teacher; Vigils; Evil Dead the Musical; The Field/; Once Around the Sun; Kiki & Herb; The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie; Abigail’s Party; Hurlyburly; Roar; and Aunt Dan and Lemon.
