Legends Pilbrow And Walton Present At Broadway Lighting Master Classes

Tony Walton and Richard Pilbrow will co-present "Light on Broadway Observed" during the Broadway Lighting Master Classes on Tuesday, May 22.

Walton and Pilbrow consider some examples of lighting on Broadway today and offer some personal reflections. "This might be an exploration of how the recent discovery of electricity has affected theatrical presentations," jokes Pilbrow.

Their session will address the topic of lighting criticism, what Pilbrow calls, "a contentious one. Most theatre critics lack awareness of the role of lighting. Theatre magazines seem to dwell on the equipment employed, the manufacturers of which buy all that advertising. A lighting design may be influenced by so many factors beyond the control of the lighting designer: constraints of budget and time, the wishes of director and colleagues. How is one to make an informed judgement? A free-ranging discussion on trends in lighting today. That may lead almost anywhere!"
