The 2013 BSMC John and Helen Meyer Scholarships

The 2013 John and Helen Meyer Scholarship to the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) is available to promising sound designers from around the world. A total of six scholarships—a mix of undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates (1-3 years out of school)—are eligible. This is the third year that the scholarships will be awarded, thanks to the generosity of Meyer Sound. The 2012 scholarships were awarded to Jeff Sherwood, Rebecca Stoll, John DaSilva, Katherine Vamva, Chris Wood, and Anthony Mattana, representing a mix of students and young professionals (2012 winners pictured below).

Candidates will be selected by BSMC creative consultant Abe Jacob, Live Design, and Meyer Sound. All candidates must submit a resume and a short, 300-500-word essay on why they want to attend the classes. Chosen candidates will be expected to blog about their experience for the Live Design and Meyer Sound websites. Scholarship includes entrée to the BSMC and special mention of Meyer Sound on their BSMC badge. Winners will also be recognized during the Saturday reception sponsored by Meyer Sound. The scholarship covers conference fees but travel and accommodation are not included.

“Broadway Sound Master Classes provide a great opportunity for those with a passion for theatrical art and a drive to learn from the industry’s best. Meyer Sound is pleased to continue our support for the program and the scholarship winners. We look forward to hearing their work on Broadway and beyond,” says Helen Meyer, executive vice president, Meyer Sound.

“Meyer Sound has been a strong supporter of the BSMC since our first year, and we’re extremely proud to further that relationship with the third annual Meyer Sound BSMC Scholarships,” says Live Design publisher David Johnson. “We applaud their commitment to the next generation of theatre sound designers with this ongoing endeavor.”

Interested candidates should submit a resume and short essay (about their commitment to sound design) by Tuesday, April 30, to [email protected]
