Who's Doing What

Lighting designer Mike Baldassari and set designer David Gallo have collaborated on a second European production of Beauty and The Beast, this time in Germany; the first opened to raves in Holland. Gallo meanwhile, has a slew of other projects on the horizon, including a production of Company in Cincinnati, directed by John Doyle, who staged the current Broadway revival of Sweeney ToddRichard Straker and Sven Ortel of the London-based video content and systems design company Mesmer, have designed projections for Simon McBurney's Complicite production of Measure for Measure, currently touring Europe, with performances at London's National Theatre in February 2006…Lightronics Inc. has added two members to its sales team: Gary Hardy is now national sales manager and Minga Waipa has been appointed as inside sales rep…Lighting designer Jason Lyons, who was a Young Designer to Watch in Entertainment Design a couple of years ago, is hitting the big time. The LD has two Broadway shows opening this spring: the revival of Barefoot in the Park, and a new production of The Threepenny OperaNol van Genuchten has left his position as principal lighting designer for Cirque du Soleil's special events department in order to pursue freelance work. He is still involved with the organization on a freelance basis…John Healy has joined Scharff Weisberg Lighting as event manager. He will be responsible for project management for a myriad of lighting events, including corporate, theatrical, television, and live shows…Michael Bottari and Ronald Case are doing the sets and costumes for Fanny Hill, a new off-Broadway musical opening in February…Dawn Chiang is lighting two regional shows: Crowns, for Arizona Theatre Company, which will travel to Portland Center Stage and Actors Theater of Louisville, as well as Steven Dietz' new play, Sherlock Holmes, The Final Adventure for Milwaukee Rep…Broadway will go back to the 80s in April, when a musical version of the Adam Sandler movie The Wedding Singer opens. Bringing the Reagan era to life will be Scott Pask (scenic designer) and Brian MacDevitt (lighting designer)…Jennifer Tankleff has been promoted to vice president for operations at I. Weiss, while Andrea Dohar has been promoted to head of installation…Designs of productions staged since June 2002 are being sought as part of USITT's initial preparation for US theatre design exhibits for the Prague Quadrennial 2007 (PQ). The National Exhibit, designed by Nic Ularu and Madeleine Sobota, will feature production designs from US theatres. Set, costume, lighting, and sound designers are invited to submit work to be considered for the exhibit via the web.
