On the Waterfront

The past year has seen an unprecedented number of new American operas, including A Streetcar Named Desire at San Francisco Opera [ED January 99], Central Park, co-produced by Glimmerglass and New York City Opera, and The Great Gatsby, which premiered last month at New York's Metropolitan Opera.
