gave out its first annual awards to the live event production industry at a ceremony held January 30, 2002, at the Hilton London Metropole in London.
The award winners were: Live Production of the Year (sponsored by Clay Paky), Robbie Williams, Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, & Stadiums tour; Best Production Manager (sponsored by Rock-It Cargo), Bill Leabody; Best Tour Manager (sponsored by EFM and Chapman Freeborn), Henry McGroggan; Best Front of House Sound Engineer (sponsored by Midas), Robbie McGrath; Best Monitor Engineer (sponsored by Shure), John Roden; Best Sound Rental Company (sponsored by Klark Teknik), SSE Hire; Best Lighting Designer (sponsored by Martin Professional), Nick Sholem; Best Lighting Rental Company (sponsored by Clay Paky), Bandit Lites; Best Video Director, Nick Jevons; Best Video Rental Company, XL Video UK; Best Set Designer (sponsored by Star Hire), Liz Berry; Best Set/Staging Company, Star Hire; The Art of Rigging Award (sponsored by Tomcat UK and Columbus McKinnon Corporation), Paddy Burnside; The Unsung Hero Award, Paul MacCallum; The Editor's Award, U2 Elevation tour production crew; Best Live Event of All Time (sponsored by Sennheiser UK), Live Aid at Wembley Stadium, 1985; Lifetime Contribution Award, Mick Upton.
Supply companies for the festivities, which were attended by more than 500 people in the live event production industry, included XL Video UK, Fineline, Martin Professional, Avolites, Clay Paky, Pulsar Light, Funktion One Research, GPA Hire, Sensible Music, Star Hire Event Services, Esprit-Tech, Slick, Tomcat UK, Acre Jean, Hangman, Stardes, DSB Showtours, Ballista Networks, and Show & Event Security. The 78-person production crew was headed by Andy Cotton of TAO Productions.
