Tony, Tony, Tony!

Last April, when Susan Hilferty learned she won a 2004 EDDY award on behalf of her team for her twisted Edwardian take on the costumes for Wicked, little did she know that she would soon need a bigger awards cabinet. Hilferty also received the 2004 Tony Award for Best Costume Design, proving that EDDY judges are ahead of the game.

Eugene Lee joined Hilferty in the winner's circle with the Best Scenic Design Tony Award. Lee's sets for Wicked were evocative and had a sense of humor, likely owing to his decades as Saturday Night Live's resident scenic guru.

A very different kind of fantasy-based show was recognized for its lighting. Assassins, the macabre tale of presidential assassins and wannabes, was not only awarded the Best Revival Tony but Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer were recognized for the lighting that helped evoke the underside of society in an abandoned side show.
