Storybook Pink

The Royal Tenenbaums is conceived as a tribute to New York, but it's certainly an offbeat portrait of the contemporary city. Though the film is shot on location, the viewer is often hard pressed to identify what the location is; and though it is set in the present, everyone's costumes are slightly quaint-looking, and the street signs seem of an earlier vintage.
