RSLI branches out

Remote Source Lighting International (RSLI) of Durham, NC, and San Juan Capistrano, CA, has announced alliances with two public utility subsidiaries.

RSLI's agreement with Con Edison Solutions, the deregulated energy services subsidiary of Consolidated Edison of New York, initially allows for the joint development, marketing, and distribution of RSLI's technology, proprietary fiber-optic lighting systems, and signage products within the metropolitan New York City area. The agreement also provides for a $10 million investment in RSLI by Con Edison Solutions, with future investments to fund and jointly develop other fiber-optic lighting applications.

Prior to the Con Edison agreement, RSLI also formed an alliance with Strategic Resource Solutions Corporation (SRS), a subsidiary of Carolina Power & Light, to jointly develop, market, and distribute RSLI technology and fiber-optic lighting systems in North and South Carolina. The alliance provides for a multimillion-dollar equity investment in RSLI by SRS. In addition, SRS will provide testing and engineering support for the continued development of RSLI's Perpetual Light Pump.

RSLI has also relocated to a new 35,000-sq.-ft. (3,150 sq. m) corporate headquarters and 25,000-sq.-ft. (2,250 sq. m) manufacturing facility located in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park. Its new address is 523 Davis Drive, Durham, NC 27709; phone: 919/319-7575.

The company is also making moves overseas. With Meitech Development, the wholly owned investment subsidiary of Multimedia Development Corp. of Malaysia, RSLI has entered a $50 million joint venture that will provide fiber-optic lighting and display solutions for Southeast Asia, beginning with Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). The venture company, RSLI Malaysia, will service the MSC, which includes the country's new administrative capital, Putrajaya, and the "intelligent" city of Cyberjaya, a region that will house the research and development arms of multimedia producers who set up in Malaysia.
