Kinesys K2

Automation specialists Kinesys and product designers Carallon have developed K2, a new motion control software solution. The software allows any item — prop, scenery, lighting truss, etc. — whether flown, tracked, or revolved, to be dealt with in terms of its own movement, rather than the movement of the devices that support it. This flexibility simplifies the communication between designer and programmer. A request like “tilt another 5°” is programmed as exactly that. With the 3D view feature, the movement of pieces can be monitored and programmed from any angle, as the operator can move around anywhere and on any plane. Programming of motion is equally straightforward with a graphical 3D interface. K2 can control any device, from chain hoists to variable-speed winches. It will also operate existing Kinesys equipment. Easy importing of 3D worlds and moving objects is possible via industry-standard CAD packages.

Serious Stages Luna and Satellite PA Masts

Serious Stages designed and fabricated a new system of PA Masts for use with their stages and structures. The specially designed Luna PA mast is configured in three heights (39', 47', and 55') all of which can flow up to four tons of PA. Space between the two main base out-riggers is decked at low level, which is useful for PA preparation and bass enclosure support. Replacing Serious' traditional Dandelion PA masts, its new Satellite PA mast uses a heavy, one-piece 7.5'×7.5' square base, nominally 0.9' high, with an offset 10m ground support truss mast, optimizing stability for flown PAs weighing up to 1.5 tons. The base has an additional fixed 5'×7.5' platform infront of the mast. A unique headboard works in conjunction with the heavily ballasted base to allow the masts to be easily scrimmed, and both PA masts feature Serious' new scrim system, which combines semi and non-permeable fabric.

LCS Audio CueStation 4.3 software

LCS Audio has released CueStation 4.3 software for its Matrix3 digital audio engine. This upgrade provides enhancements to Wild Tracks, VRAS (Variable Room Acoustic System), and the external control capabilities of their flagship FOH mixing, playback, and acoustic enhancement system. Wild Tracks now adds 24 tracks of playback to Matrix3 and has the capability to record up to eight tracks. In addition, users can change the number of loops while the file is playing and then seamlessly transition out of the looping section on cue. Audio files can be dragged directly into the Cue List, and playback channels can be assigned to tracks using a new display. Other cues can be triggered at any specified point, enabling automation events to be tightly synchronized to audio playback. In addition, a new algorithm has been added for VRAS to decipher between speech and music on a designated input channel. Depending on the type of signal detected, VRAS presets are triggered to automatically adjust the room for the appropriate acoustic setting. Other upgrades include the implementation of Open Sound Control (OSC) protocol for controlling and subscribing to system parameters. New features are available for testing network performance, defining and executing custom scripts using Python, and specifying a default web page for Matrix3.

Furman Sound AR-15 Voltage Regulator

Furman Sound released the AR-15 Series II, a 15A voltage regulator that delivers 120V of AC power to protect electronic equipment from damage caused by line voltage irregularities like sags, brownouts, and overvoltages. The AR-15 accepts any input voltage from 97V to 141V and transforms it to a constant 120V (±5) with an output capacity of 15A. The AR-15 also protects connected equipment from damage using Furman's exclusive SMP+ circuitry, which clamps and dissipates damaging transient voltages. Over-voltage circuitry protects against accidental connections to 208VAC or 240VAC by shutting off incoming power until the overvoltage condition is corrected. Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) filters and purifies AC power, which dramatically reduces noise that masks and distorts critical signal information. The AR-15 has eight outlets on the rear panel and one on the front panel. It is housed in single-space, rack-mount chassis. An LED bar-graph meter indicates the input voltage, while a separate LED indicates that the output voltage is within an acceptable range.
