ChainMaster
BGV-D8-Plus

ChainMaster has developed a new BGV-D8-Plus chain-hoist controller. It comes in two versions: a four channel or eight channel model, with connections for the relevant number of load measuring cells. Since the BGV-D8-Plus standard does not require the continuous monitoring of all connected loads, the ChainMaster team has developed a solution whereby the loads can be called up in sequence, and the controller has just the one display. For this innovative solution, ChainMaster has applied for a protection of utility patent.

Link USA
LK Connector Upgrades

Link USA has introduced enhancements to its line of LKS 19-pin lighting connectors, specifically the 19-pin LKS and the 19-pin Spider connectors. The 19-pin LKS connector has a longer backshell that improves the ergonomics of the connector and provides easier assembly. The anodized connectors now come in multiple colors for easier identification. Other additions are an internal insulator, impact resistant rubberized locking ring, and an integral locking set screw system that improves connector integrity by making it impossible to accidentally uncouple the connector assembly. The LKS 19-pin Spider connector features a new, ultra-compact design, resulting in the only Spider grip on the market that maintains the dimensions of the low profile, Pg29-style connector. Its compact design is due to the internal locking system and special insulator, which eliminate the need for a large external locking ring. The new Spider is waterproof and each cable can be individually replaced. The Spider clamp comes both cabled and uncabled. The LKS rubber insert can accommodate six cables. The internal insulator can also be opened and installed after the individual conductors have been terminated.

AUDIO

d&b audiotechnik Qi-Series Installation Loudspeakers

d&b audiotechnik designed its new Qi-Series as the fixed installation loudspeaker cousins to its Q-Series mobile loudspeakers. The Qi-Series consists of five loudspeakers and specialized accessories: the Qi1, Qi7, and Qi10 are passively crossed over two-way loudspeakers; the Qi-SUB and QiCSA-SUB are bass-reflex designs with a high excursion 18" driver. The Qi1, Qi7, and Qi10 share the same size, shape, weight, and driver compliment (a 1.3" exit HF and two 10" LF drivers). The Qi1 HF driver is fitted with a toroidal wave-shaping device; the resulting 75°×15° (h × v) dispersion pattern produces a curved coherent wave-front allowing construction of vertical line arrays. The Qi7 and Qi10 loudspeakers have a rotatable 75°×40° and 110°×40° (h×v) conventional CD horn respectively and may be deployed as single units or in columns with Qi1s and Qi subwoofers. The Qi1, Qi7, and Qi10 individually weigh 21kg but achieve maximum output levels of 139, 138, and 137dB SPL, respectively. The Qi-SUB and QiCSA-SUB are designed for the Cardioid Subwoofer Array (CSA) system, which increases directivity at low frequencies. The Qi-SUB is used as forward facing cabinets in the array while the QiCSA-SUB is specially designed to provide the rear facing elements. All Qi-Series loudspeakers can be supplied with finishes that color match interior designs and can be protected for hostile climates.

Renkus-Heinz
DCC16 and DCC8 Loudspeakers

The new DCC16 and DCC8 digitally controlled column loudspeakers from Renkus-Heinz are designed to provide intelligible speech and musical sound in highly reverberant environments. The DCC16 acts as the basic building block of the system and is an array of 16 compact full range transducers. Measuring 5.25"×7"×78", DCC16 modules mount inconspicuously on walls or large pillars. Advanced DSP software and true digital amplification enable definition of the shape and aim of the vertical beam without moving the DCC modules. The DCC16 delivers constant SPL over large distances (300' plus). Coverage is consistent at 500Hz and above, especially on the coverage area's sides due to advanced DSP algorithms that create vertically narrow beams without side lobes. Beams can be symmetrical, asymmetrical, or dual and can be customized. DCC8 modules, which are half of a DCC16, can be added easily to the basic DCC16 system to extend the vertical pattern control to lower frequencies. For front and side fill applications, a single DCC8 module can be used to control acoustic energy above 1kHz. The drivers are driven by individually processed signals, delivered by an 8-channel processor/amplifier module designed by D2 Audio. The module converts a standard PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) input to eight PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals. This eliminates the need to convert PCM to analog and analog to PWM.

ShowBuilder
Sound Design software

Designed as a sound designer's ultimate assistant, ShowBuilder software is a single program that helps organize every aspect of sound design and maintenance to take the drudgery out of design administration. ShowBuilder software does all paperwork and labeling needed to organize a show; it generates professional labels, reports, contact lists, equipment requests, etc. It helps A1s and A2s keep track of equipment problems and inventory, but it is a tool for designers, associates, assistants, and operators as well. The program allows designers to build a sound design in their computer and verify that it will work before ever getting to set. ShowBuilder acts as financial organizer — keeping track of purchase orders, budgets, expenses, invoices, income, etc.; a schedule planner by tracking important dates and tour schedules; and a notepad by saving notes and memos. It also organizes repair and shop orders, truck manifests, show routes, sound cues, all equipment settings, and more. ShowBuilder makes it easy to create equipment lists by automatically tracking equipment changes and adjusting and updating the lists accordingly. It contains an RF coordination system and an RF intermodulation calculator.

Barco
MiSphere

First unveiled on the current U2 Vertigo tour, designed by Willie Williams, Barco's MiSphere is a tiny, plastic-encased LED spherical module designed and developed by Barco at its R&D headquarters in Belgium especially for the current tour. With 360° viewing angles, opaque, light-diffusing casing and ability to play both full video and data, the MiSphere bridges the gap between existing video and lighting products, enabling it to be used for both application purposes. In-dividual MiSpheres are daisy-chained into a string, with several strings in turn forming a 3D visualization curtain. Each MiSphere acts as a pixel within the curtain, making it possible to display images and simulate lighting effects across the entire curtain, while also achieving a “Look-Trough” effect and “Multiple Angle” viewing effect for the audience all around the scene. For the U2 tour, the MiSphere strings hang high above centerstage, each containing 64 spheres and totalling approximately 30' long. A total of 189 strings (containing over 12,000 spheres) together form seven 3D curtains, which allow fans on all sides of the stage to have a perfect view of the images and content displayed on the curtain above the band. The digital curtain will be retracted and lowered throughout the show as needed.
