Lightfair International 2002 Focuses on Energy

When the architectural lighting community convenes in San Francisco in June for Lightfair International 2002, a special focus will be on energy-efficient lighting systems and energy-related topics. With events and exhibits scheduled June 2-5 at the Moscone Convention Center (Halls A, B, C, and Gateway Hall), Lightfair 2002 anticipates over 15,000 professionals from the lighting industry and allied design fields, such as architecture, interior design, and building.

The Lightfair 2002 show floor is expected to have over 400 international exhibitors, many of which are on the energy bandwagon and will feature energy-efficient products, from lamps and luminaires to controls and ballasts. The energy awareness on the show floor will echo in the meeting rooms, with special pre-conference workshops on June 2 designed to address energy issues. These sessions include: Energy and Environmental Codes and issues--Strategies for Sustainable Designs, Parts 1 and 2; Lamp Color, Visibility, Safety, and Security; Retail Lighting Design Studio; and Cutting-Edge Retrofitting and Relighting.

These sessions, as well as additional workshops on June 3, 4, and 5, will be lead by lighting and energy experts who will discuss the opportunities and obstacles in existing and new markets for highly efficient energy systems in illumination applications. Topics range from new energy-efficient technologies, the current energy environment, and what to look for in the future, including new technical developments and opportunities in high-intensity discharge (HID), compact fluorescent (CF), fluorescent (FL), and induction lighting systems for public, commercial, and residential applications.

Additional workshop titles range from LEDs: Past, Present, and Future, and the Impact of Mercury Legislation on the Lighting Industry to The Distance Between "Energy Effective" and the "Bottom Line," and North American Energy Issues. In fact, Lightfair offers courses at various professional levels, from basic to intermediate to masters, with over 80 total hours of intensive training. The complete program of 10 workshops and 27 seminars also provide AIA, ASID, IIDA, IESNA, and IFMA accreditation and are registered with NCQLP for LEU credit.

Special events at Lightfair 2002 include the New Product Showcase and Awards Presentation, which will be held on Monday, June 2, at the Palace Hotel Grand Ballroom. This showcase highlights over 150 of the latest products and innovations, including a special Energy Award, which represents product excellence in the field of lighting energy management and savings.

Lightfair International is sponsored by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).
