Group One Adds Cadac To Its Audio Lineup Farmingdale, NY distributor Group One Ltd. has added to its line of audio products - and significantly increased its presence in the theatre sound market - by taking on the Cadac console. The lighting and sound supplier will handle the full range of consoles and products from the UK-based manufacturer, including the J-Type and F-Type live production consoles, the C-Type location recording console, and the M-Type monitor board.

Cadac has long been a fixture on Broadway, but in the last year several other consoles - the LCS CueConsole, the InnovaSon Sensory - have entered the theatre market. The move to Group One has occurred not only at the height of this new competition, but also at a time when Cadac prepares to launch a new touring console at AES in Los Angeles.

"It is gratifying that the Cadac name has earned a high profile on the Broadway and musical production circuit," says Cadac managing director Clive Green, "but there is still a huge and as yet untapped market for our products, particularly in the fixed installation sector, and in line with imminent product launches, in the touring sector. We have known Jack Kelly and his team over a number of years, and feel confident that they will do an excellent job for us in North America."

"Cadac consoles have superb reputation for quality and reliability, representing the pinnacle of audio engineering design for live applications," says Kelly, president of Group One. We believe that there is enormous potential for their products as a whole across North America. This is a very exciting appointment for us, and we look forward to working with the entire Cadac team."

Group One's other audio clients include XTA and Celestion; lighting companies include Clay Paky and Pulsar.

Total Structures Inc. recently produced a unique tensioned fabric structure for general contractor Fabric Structures that was based on an original concept by architect FTL Happold. What made this different from the many other rooftops that the company produced this year was the shape and proportions: it was a ridged contoured ellipse, supported on only two towers, measuring 70' wide and 63' deep. The structure was engineered to carry 7,000lbs of sound equipment and 1,000lbs of lighting gear for the Summerstage series in New York's Central Park...Sennheiser's e 865, the latest addition to the company's evolution line of microphones, as well as the first electret condenser microphone in the evolution series, was part of Sting's Brand New Day tour. TM Audio became involved in the project via Heuvelman Sound and Vision BV, which won the contract for the overall design project when it went out to bid. Rob Haarlem, project manager for Limburg, approached TM Audio to specify the electro-acoustic elements of the system design. The installation encompasses three areas of the building, and in each area the specified loudspeakers of choice were from the Turbosound TCS series. In the Statenzaal, the conference hall, four TCS-30 cabinets form a central cluster above the room's chandelier, with six TCS-10s distributed around the public tribune. A Philips DCN (digital conference network) discussion system, comprising a 70-piece mic/speaker station, is also part of the installation. The outputs of the system are fed to a BSS Soundweb, which supplies all the processing and distribution before arriving at the Turbosound TCS speaker clusters, as well as the backup recorders, wireless FM loop system for deaf listeners, and many other rooms and offices around the building. Eighteen Turbosound TCS-10 loudspeakers are featured in the Feestzaal, a ballroom. A smaller conference/performance area, the Grote Staat, features eight TCS-10 cabinets.....The recently opened BB King Blues Club in New York's Times Square district has been fitted with a complete Stage Accompany sound system. Amit Peleg designed the system, which features three clusters of speakers left/center/right: the top row of each cluster contains SA Champ Series C27s; the bottom row has SA Entertainer Series E24s for close-fill. SA Bass Series XL-bin high pressure bass woofers and SA Bass Series SB 45 sub bass woofers are embedded under the stage for the sound image to appear to come from one source.
