ESTA announces public standards review

Two proposed standards written by different working groups of committee E1, Safety and Compatibility of Entertainment Technical Equipment and Practices, are available for public review. The committee is sponsored by the Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) and is ANSI-accredited.

BSR E1.3, Entertainment Technology--Lighting Control Systems--0 to 10V Analog Control Specification, has been submitted by the Control Protocols Working Group. The specification describes the technical requirements for the common analog control scheme, widely used before DMX512 and still in use today.

The second draft standard is a project of the Rigging Working Group. BSR E1.10, Entertainment Technology--Building Structural Requirements, is intended to give an architect or structural engineer guidance in designing a theatre or performance venue that has to support a theatrical rigging system and contain a stage. This document will give the building designer information to help anticipate rigging loads.

Both are available for public review until August 3. Copies of each may be obtained from the ESTA website at www.esta.org, or by contacting ESTA technical standards manager Karl Ruling via fax at 212/244-1502 or by writing to him at 875 Sixth Avenue, Suite 2302, New York, NY 10001.
