Rose Brand 110" Smoke Out® IFR

Smoke Out is a gauzy weave designed for use as an overhead canopy or soft ceiling system that is inherently flame retardant. Made from flame-resistant Trevira polyester, it gives designers a clever fabric ceiling solution that is both good-looking and safe. In the event of a fire, the special weave has a meltable line that will open up at 158°F (70°C), allowing smoke to escape and water from sprinklers to drop unimpeded.

City Theatrical WDS Wireless Dimming System

There are a number of wireless DMX systems on the market, but the City Theatrical Wireless Dimming System is one of the first to add a 15A dimmer. The WDS System is compact, durable, flexible, economical, and simple to use. Now you can have a remote dimmer on a wagon, in a prop, or in a costume. You can also add a controllable light wherever you need it.

Entertainment Technology IPS Intelligent Raceway

With the Intelligent Raceway dimming system, you can now have what looks like a standard connector strip, up to 100' in length with up to 96 2.4kW dimmers. In another innovative twist, there are two outlets for each dimmer that handle a total of 2.4kW; if one outlet uses 2kW, then you only get 400W on the other receptacle. In these days of the ubiquitous 575W luminaire, this arrangement makes a lot of sense.

Martin MAC 2000 Performance

With its framing shutters and animation effects, the Performance is, in one judge's words, “damn bright, bulletproof, and the pattern animation is stupid simple.” What more can a designer ask for? In the automated profile niche, you either get repeatable shutter performance but at a slow speed, or fast shutters with little repeatability; with the Performance there is a good mix of fast speed and repeatable shutters.

Staging and Projection

Texas Instruments DLP Dark Chip Enhancement

The Dark Chip process, a new development in Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing (DLP) projection technology, is an enhancement to the Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) that incorporates a black metal layer over the chip substructure, absorbing scattered light entering the substructure for improved darkness and a significant increase in contrast ratio. Barco, Christie, Digital Projections, and NEC among others are incorporating this technology into their projectors.

W8LC COMPACT LINE ARRAY

Martin Audio's W8LC compact three-way, all-horn line array is the first true mid-sized system offering the refined audio quality, smooth, consistent horizontal coverage, and fast setup of its popular big brother, the W8L. Given its superior audio, high output, and compact dimensions, the W8LC array is ideal for contemporary theatrical use. Its asymmetrical design allows mid and HF horns to function as separate devices for consistent horizontal pattern control. Horizontal coverage is 90° (-6dB) and 120° (-10dB) above 500Hz, while vertical coverage is 7.5°. The W8LC also combines the efficiency of horn loading with the extended low-frequency response of a reflex enclosure, and its horn-loaded 12"/3" coil neodymium driver extends the LF output below the horn's natural cut-off point. The W8LC's twin 6.5" midrange Hybrid horn can produce up to 106dB at 1W/1m — compared to less efficient cross-firing direct radiator mids producing 101 to 102dB. The system's three 1" HF horn drivers reduce distortion, improve dispersion, and extend the high-frequency range with absolute smoothness. Designed to fly quickly and easily, the W8LC's proprietary rigging system is reliable and safe. The W8LC cabinet measures 39.4"W×14.5"H×21.7"D and weighs 128lb including rigging hardware.

M1D AND M2D CURVILINEAR ARRAYS

The M1D Ultra-Compact Curvilinear Array loudspeaker is designed specifically for implementing vertical curvilinear arrays of up to 16 cabinets having 0° to 8° splay between adjacent units. Ideal for small venues and housed in a compact, vented trapezoidal enclosure, the M1D comprises two 5" drivers for low-mid frequencies, and three 1" high-frequency dome tweeters coupled to a constant-directivity horn. Its operating frequency range is 60Hz to 18kHz, with maximum peak output of 125dB SPL (each cabinet) at 1m and coverage of 100° horizontal (vertical coverage depends upon the array length and curvature). To assure the smoothest response in the critical midrange, the M1D incorporates a complex crossover design similar to that pioneered in the UPM series. At the lowest frequencies, both 5" drivers combine to reproduce powerful, coherent bass. In the mid frequencies, the crossover feeds only one of the two drivers.

The M2D Compact Curvilinear Array loudspeaker brings numerous advantages to mid-sized venues that require tight vertical pattern control with long throw. The M2D is designed specifically for vertical curvilinear arrays of up to 16 cabinets having 0° to 7° splay between adjacent units. To assure the smoothest response in the critical midrange, the M2D incorporates a complex crossover design: At the lowest frequencies, both 10" drivers combine to reproduce powerful, coherent bass, while in the mid frequencies the crossover feeds only one of the two drivers. This ingenious technique eliminates interference between the drivers that would otherwise occur at shorter wavelengths.
