Dr. Forrest Newlin Dies

Forrest A. Newlin, chairman of the Texas Christian University Theatre Department, died Monday, December 16, 2002, after a short illness; he was 64. Dr. Newlin spent most of his professional life as a college and university teacher along with work in commercial theatre. Dr. Newlin was an educator for over 40 years and was very active in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).

Dr. Newlin was born October 16, 1938, in Emporia, KS. His theatrical design career in scenic, lighting, and costume design included professorships with Idaho State University, Emporia State University, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University, and University of Oklahoma. He joined Texas Christian University in 1993 as chairman of Theatre. Dr. Newlin was on the board of directors of Stage West in Fort Worth. He served as a Fulbright Scholar at the National Institute for the Arts, Taipei, Taiwan, and supported many international exchange programs with Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Theatre Koleso in Toggletti, Russia, and Texas Christian University London Center. Dr. Newlin was proud of his many former students and their accomplishments in theatre.
