Database for Canadian performing arts announced

The Canada Council is funding a Canadian Performing Arts Facilities Database project. The aim of this project is to update the Council's familiar purple binders to a WWW-accessible database via the CultureNet site (http://cnet.ffa.ucalgary.ca) which can then be more easily kept up-to-date.

The Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT) is coordinating the project and invites facilities that wish to be included to contact Ron Morissette at phone: 514/499-2935, fax: 514/499-2057, e-mail: [email protected]. The database will include information on stage architecture, including the standardization of existing CADD drawings, technical equipment and services, and general contact information. Its electronic format will allow for easier consultation and searches of information by touring companies and the performing arts community at large.

It is hoped that the database will contain information on more than 150 theatres across Canada. Of these, at least 25 will also include the facilities' CADD drawings of the performance area. Of special interest are the facilities that are most active in hosting touring companies and performers as well as co-production houses. Those facilities and their users are urged to contact Morissette to ensure their presence on the site or for any additional information.
