OCEAN OPTICS: BOOTH #2343

SEACHANGER COLOR CHANGER

The SeaChanger is a dichroic color changer designed for a variety of entertainment lighting applications, in particular those where ETC Source Four® spotlights are specified. The unit consists of four filters — cyan, magenta, and yellow, plus a neutral density filter — in an 8.0"× 6.5" module that fits Source Four fixtures. Using a patented dichroic filter process, these filters can be configured in 100 million different positions, yielding a virtually endless variety of colors. A patented optical coating production method allows micron-scale precision patterning of dichroic coatings on a single substrate — such as a monolithic colored filter for stage lighting — with spatial resolution, transmission efficiency, sharp colors, and filter durability superior to dye-colored gels and other technologies. Software is included that matches the cyan-magenta-yellow combinations to more than 300 Rosco colored gel filters. Similar matching capabilities to GAM, Lee, and other colored gels will soon be available.

JUMP-START

Jump-Start is a small, hand-held RDM and DMX512 programmer. As the new Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol gains acceptance, the DIP switches on the rear of moving lights will gradually disappear — as RDM allows the lighting console to patch the lights. But what do you do if the lighting console is still in the truck? Or when you need to address a light in the workshop? Or if you want to check the temperature sensor? Jump-Start plugs into the DMX connector and displays all important information: start address, footprint, personality, sensors, temperature, voltage, lamp hours, etc. You can also plug it into the lighting rig and auto-patch all the lights. It can also ask the light to strike, dowse, or self-test, or it can operate as a straightforward DMX tester. Individual channels can be set to a level or they can ramp continuously. Channel settings can also be stored to memory. Talk time is around 12 hours, and standby time is about 6 months.

ICE*LIGHTING

Empowered by Bead*light® micro-lenses, this new lighting system creates unique, safe, RGB LED, high definition animations. The first product from the ice*lighting range is a batten of eight hexagonal tiles, linearly arranged. Each batten consists of 384 RGB pixels (a total of 1152 light emitters) with each pixel individually controllable. When this array is merged with the Bead*light® Technologies (patents pending) diffusion system, containing over 300,000 micro lenses per batten, the result is high definition images or flows of color. The Bead*light® provides little attenuation of light and enables a viewing angle of at least 140°. Multiple control methods (keypad/DMX 512/ice*lighting server) can be used, depending on the application and the software. The “crash cage” houses an on-board computer and multiple microcontrollers, and the product design, including Telectra's advanced thermal management techniques, allows screens to be created from interlocking battens.

EDMX

The eDMX system transfers DMX data across a Wi-Fi radio link, completely removing the need for DMX data cables. eDMX units are easily addressed and user-configured, either as transmitters or receivers, allowing the fast set up of “Point-to-Point,” “Point-to-Multipoint,” or “Multipoint to Multipoint” DMX data transmission systems. Each transmitter/receiver pair relays data for one DMX universe at full speed, with ranges of up to 1km. Deployment is totally user definable — one per light, one per pipe or truss, or just one to overcome the front of house data leap. Any eDMX unit may be instantly set as a transmitter or a receiver. Working across multiple networks, each unit contains its own unique addressing protocol, and each can be set to receive data from a different universe for multiple universe situations. In addition, each can act as a pre-patch unit, saving users from having to readdress the moving light in situ. A complete built-in web server can be used to view system configurations and channel signal-to-noise ratios.

VL3500

The VL3500 Spot and VL3500Q Spot are 1200W fixtures with an automated shutter system consisting of four shutters on two planes, allowing blades to be operated independently or in unison on the two planes. This, combined with the opposing chamfers, allows focus on all four blades at once. Shutters allow designers to harness control of light beam — shuttering off a doorframe or a set piece, for example. The fixtures have 11 total gobos — five rotating and six static. The same gobos and carriers can be used in all Series 3000 fixtures, as all are interchangeable. The fixtures are available in the “Q” version, which has a 50% quieter fan noise for situations where silence is critical.

WIRELESS SOLUTION: BOOTH #1043

SWELITE W-DMX

W-DMX is a new wireless DMX system developed by Wireless Solution AB in Sweden. Most systems for sending wireless DMX transpose the data onto a proprietary standard such 802.11 (W-LAN) and use compliant wireless equipment for the data transmission. The W-DMX is a plug and play unit free from interference from other products in the 2.45GHz band. Using the mobile telephone GSM technology in the 2.45GHz licence-free band, the W-DMX avoids many of the problems of ordinary wireless networking products. The products are all DMX512A- and RDM-ready, and the firmware can be updated using a separate data channel, which is also used for system set up. Up to 8192 receivers can be controlled from one system. Ranges of up to 30km are possible (US Spec equipment only) with up to 12km in Europe. The product will be exhibited at the SGM Light Technology booth.
