Bright idea

Welch Allyn's lighting products division has developed a new fiber-optic illuminator that uses a 50W metal-halide source capable of providing more light than a 150W halogen or xenon source - without the extra heat. According to the manufacturer, this gain is possible due to the special internal Solarc lamp's precision focus capabilities, and a short arc gap of 1.2mm. The lamp delivers an intense white light, with a color temperature over 6500K delivered into the fiber. The LB50/LB60 series type illuminator can provide up to 1,500 lumens, has a rated life of 2,500 hours, and can be operated at voltages of 90-240VAC, at 50-60Hz. The illuminator has all necessary control electronics and cooling fans, is housed in a metal enclosure, and can be customized to support any fiber or connector. It can be mounted on or in test and inspection equipment as well as other medical, industrial, or decorative lighting environments. WELCH ALLYN LIGHTING PRODUCTS DIVISION Skaneateles Falls, NY
