The Philips Vari-Lite VL4000 BeamWash luminaire combines wash and beam functions: its wash mode providing an even wash with variable hot spot/edge control, its beam mode with a 4º to 40º beam angle, and a shaft mode that outputs a collimated shaft, without the need to change lenses. Using a Philips 1,200W lamp, with 43,000 lumens of output, the fixture features 10º to 60º zoom range, while the indexable and rotating beam-shaping alters the output from round to elliptical. Effects are available via two seven-position gobo wheels and a variable animation wheel. A high-speed mechanical iris and an independent five-facet rotating step prism add to the graphical abilities, while a lenticular feature allows the output to be modified to create a rectangular hard edge or extruded gobo imagery. The fixture makes use of the Infinity Color Mix system.
