LDI and the University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance have announced an exclusive new program that allows undergraduate students from around the world to take four professional training courses at LDI2013 in Las Vegas and get college credit from a major accredited American university.
"The University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance is proud to be an academic partner with LDI. Together, we can provide a range of courses by master teachers that promises to advance the field of entertainment technology and design for years to come. The UF and LDI—it's a perfect match," comments Dr. Jerry Dickey, director.
“We have worked for two years to make this program a reality,” says Ellen Lampert-Gréaux, creative director for Live Design and LDI. “We are very excited it has come to fruition for LDI2013 and applaud the University of Florida for its bold academic vision.”
The courses in the UF@LDI program this year each carry one UF undergraduate credit. All students must be currently enrolled in an accredited university worldwide, and provide a valid student ID.
The four courses are:
• Projection 101: The Basics, TPA 4930 Section 151A, Tuesday, November 19, instructor Jake Pinholster (assisted by Julia LaVault) ($275)
• Concert Design: Process and Collaboration, TPA 4930 Section 1504, Wednesday, November 20, instructors Seth Jackson and Nathan W. Scheuer ($275)
• Entertainment Rigging Fundamentals, TPA 4930 Section 151B, Wednesday & Thursday, November 20 & 21, instructor Eric Rouse ($375)
• The Essence Of Museum Lighting Design, TPA 4930 Section 1512C, Thursday, November 21, instructors Steven Rosen and Ted Mather of Available Light ($275)
“This unique partnership provides an opportunity for undergraduates to get training in an environment where the equipment and professionals are available in a way not possible on most college campuses,” notes professor Stan Kaye, UF’s design and production area head. “This offers students the chance to enjoy professional training as bona fide university courses, at a discount, taught by industry experts, and with credit that will be accepted by their home university. The courses have been vetted, there will be follow-up assessment, and this is a very exciting new collaboration for us and for LDI.”
