Live Design International Awards To Be Presented at LDI06 in Las Vegas

Excellence in entertainment design and technology will be acknowledged by the Live Design International Awards, presented by LDI and Live Design magazine in a special awards ceremony on Saturday, October 21 at LDI2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

These prestigious awards will honor four outstanding individuals whose work has made an impact in our industry, as well as three products of the year that have been released in 2006 and represent important technological breakthroughs in their respective fields of lighting, audio, projection, and staging/rigging.

The products of the year, and the individual achievement awards will be announced in advance on the pages of Live Design as well as right here on the website. In addition, awards will be presented to the best debuting products that are launched at LDI but have not yet hit the market.

The winners will be selected by panels of industry experts, working in conjunction with the editors of Live Design, with an eye toward outstanding contributions in technical and design-related fields. For the individual achievement awards there are no rules, no fixed categories, no age limits, and no restrictions.

“We are following in the tradition of the TCI and EDDY Awards, presented since 1991 by previous versions of our magazine,” says David Johnson, editorial director and associate publisher of Live Design. “We are extremely pleased to join forces with LDI and present our awards together.” Since 1991, over 50 individuals, six design or production teams, one union, one creature shop, one concert construction company, and one production department have been so honored, along with a group of outstanding products in all areas of entertainment technology.

The awards ceremony on October 21, 2006 will also include the annual Wally Russell Lifetime Achievement Award, the Wally Russell Newcomer Award, and ESTA’s annual product awards. The awards ceremony will be part of a special benefit for ESTA’s Behind The Scenes initiative, and will include a cocktail reception, silent auction, and post-awards party featuring live music from industry musicians.

“We’re very excited to be restructuring the awards in this format,” says Sharon Morabito, LDI show director. “We see the Live Design International Awards as a great opportunity to honor the best in the industry, and to bring everyone associated with LDI together for a good cause.”

LDI exhibitors are welcome to nominate their products that will launch at LDI2006 for the best debuting product award. A jury of industry professionals will judge these products at the show.
