ESTA Foundation Offer Rigging Courses at LDI2006

The Seminars & Training Committee of The ESTA Foundation will offer two day-long rigging classes at LDI2006 in Las Vegas. On Wednesday, October 18, Eddie Raymond and Bill Sapsis will team-teach a course in Arena Rigging, while Jay O. Glerum will present his Stage Rigging Fundamentals Workshop on Thursday, October 19. Both courses are part of the annual LDInstitute which provides in-depth professional training in various facets of entertainment technology.

The Arena Rigging course on October 18 covers the basics of fall protection, hardware, hoists, trusses and the math involved, and effective methods to communicate the standard to be met to the crew, the work to be done, and their roles in getting it done. The course is designed for riggers with one to three years of practical rigging experience. The instructors are rigging experts Bill Sapsis of Sapsis Rigging and Eddie Raymond of IATSE Local 16. Jay O. Glerum of Jay O. Glerum & Associates Inc. presents a full-day Stage Rigging Fundamentals workshop for rigging in theatres, concert halls, studios, churches, and schools. This course is intended for anyone who wants to learn the essentials of stage rigging. A copy of the Stage Rigging Handbook (www.usitt.org) is helpful but not required. Topics covers include: the physics and metallurgy of rigging; hardware selection and application;

Both courses take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from 9:30am-5:30pm, and are limited to 50 participants each. The cost per class is $350 including lunch and coffee breaks ($450 after September 15).
