2010 Live Design Broadway Master Classes Updates

Focus on Broadway during the Live Design Broadway Master Classes May 21-27, 2010. The Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) kick off the week with a performance of the new Green Day musical, American Idiot, on Friday, May 21 followed on May 22 and 23 with sessions with top sound designers and the manufacturers showcase on at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. The 2010 sound faculty, led by Abe Jacob includes Robert Kaplowitz, Brian Ronan (American Idiot), Bob McCarthy, John Taylor, and Acme Sound Partners, plus a panel discussion on rental shops.

The Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) runs May 25-27, with all attendees seeing the acclaimed musical, Fela!, on Tuesday May 25 and lighting designer Robert Wierzel, in his BLMC debut, providing an in-depth look at the design. Jules Fisher heads the lighting faculty, which also includes Peggy Eisenhauer, Don Holder, Beverly Emmons, Clifton Taylor, Wendall K. Harrington, and Peter Kaczorowski, also making his first appearance at the BLMC.

The BLMC sessions and manufacturers showcase will take place on May 25 and 26 at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts and NYU's Kimmel Center, with a special closing brunch and panel on Thursday, May 27 (location TBA). The panel will focus on the collaboration by the various designers for Fela, and feature LD Robert Wierzel, projection designer Peter Nigrini, and Marina Draghici, scenic and costume designer, and others. The Projection Master Classes will be held on Monday, May 24, also at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and are the perfect bridge from sound to lighting, especially for those who opt for the full-conference package.

The 2010 Live Design Broadway Master Classes also include award presentations for the Lighting, Sound, and Projection Products of the Year, Live Design’s Excellence Awards, and the 2009 Wally Russell Award for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Dr. Joel Rubin as well.
