What I'm Using Now...Kino Flo

Kino Flo is a relatively new lighting concept that uses fluorescent technology exclusively. Any artful person involved in still or motion picture photography in any capacity has typically avoided fluorescent lighting at all cost, because it usually gives off a nasty green spike that is considered unflattering to most. Kino Flo has developed color balanced fluorescent tubes that provide close to perfect 3200K (tungsten) or 5500K (daylight). I have found these fixtures to be nice complements to large lighting schemes and great to use exclusively for small setups. Light weight, cool operation, low voltage draw, versatile, need I say more?

Large HMIs or tungsten Fresnels through large dense diffusions are not always practical, although admittedly, they will always be the more beautiful option when resources allow.
