Panasonic Shipping AJ-SDC905 DVCPRO50 Camcorder With IEEE 1394

Panasonic announced deliveries of the AJ-SDC905, its first dual-mode DVCPRO50 camcorder that combines high-performance 2/3" 3-CCDs, 12-bit DSP for superb video and audio quality, and an IEEE 1394 input/output to expedite 50Mbps nonlinear editing.

Ideal for NTSC-compatible newsgathering and high-performance video production, the AJ-SDC905 offers EFP-quality 4:2:2 sampled DVCPRO50 or 4:1:1 sampled DVCPRO recording, at native 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratios.

The AJ-SDC905 features three 2/3" 520,000-pixel 16:9 native CCDs to produce 750 lines of resolution, a high sensitivity of F13 at 2000 lux, and outstanding low-light shooting down to 0.01 lux (at +68dB). It is equipped with 12-bit A/D DSP circuits that provide improved picture quality, color reproduction and luminance gradation, and an outstanding 65dB signal-to-noise ratio. Its advanced 12-axis matrix color correction system permits precise colors to be adjusted without affecting overall color tone.

The AJ-SDC905 offers as standard a six-second pre-recording function that permits it to capture spontaneous scenes. The pre-recording function continually caches six seconds of video and audio in memory (time settable by one-second increments) as it enters the camera’s front lens. When a user pushes the record button, video and audio in the cache is recorded to tape. The AJ-SDC905 also offers a Retake Mode. A valuable feature for news shooting, the Retake Mode allows the camcorder to automatically back up to the start of the last take and record over it. Additionally, the camcorder provides one-frame interval REC for time-lapse recording.

The camera is outfitted with a Super Gain function with a maximum gain of 48dB, plus a time-accumulate Digital Super Gain mode to offer additional gain of +6/+12/+20dB for ultra-high sensitivity shooting (as low as 0.01 lux (at +48 +20dB setting)) for night-time acquisition.

The 15 lb., well-balanced camcorder offers a maximum record time of 33 minutes in DVCPRO50 and 66 minutes in DVCPRO, and provides two 48kHz/16-bit digital audio channels in 50Mbps DVCPRO50. The camcorder is equipped with an IEEE-1394 digital interface to losslessly transfer audio and video to a computer for in-field editing or for dubbing to another IEEE-1394-equipped DVCPRO recorder.

The AJ-SDC905 also provides one-touch camera status report, as well as an electronic shutter (speeds from 1/100 to 1/2000 sec) and synchro-scan capability (1/60.3 to 1/249.7 sec.) Other shooting-assist functions include: a four-position optical filter wheel; four built-in user scene files; three user-customizable function buttons; a marker selector function (for displaying a 4:3 marker); multi-functional zebra pattern/display adjustment; SD memory card for storage of operational settings; Auto Tracking White Balance; built-in SMPTE time code generator/reader; low power consumption of 25 watts; quick response standby mode; built-in time code generator/reader and genlock; and phantom power supply (48V phantom mike).
