Elite Multimedia Productions (EMP), a Nashville-based professional audio, video and lighting company, recently sent Student Life, an inter-denominational ministry, out on their 16th conference tour, marking 10 years since the two companies started working together.
Sight Unseen is Student Life’s 2014 weekend youth conference that takes places in seven cities over the course of eight weeks in the U.S. Combining praise and worship, teaching and drama, the conference presents EMP with a variety of audio, visual and lighting needs. This year, the message of the conference, Sight Unseen, is taken from 2 Corinthians 4:18, and presented Technical Director Jake Brantley with a unique visual challenge.
“While we were challenging students to look past the everyday events in their lives to see things from an eternal perspective, we wanted to build a change that challenged their visual perspective,” Brantley said.
The team chose projection mapping in order to accomplish that goal. Student Life used two Eiki 15K projectors, which projected onto a custom aluminum, Lexan and diffusion lighting gel backdrop built by Student Life Master Carpenter/Lighting Director Chris Kulow.
“We wanted to use this technology in a way that draws our audience into the story being told both through music and spoken word,” Kulow said. “We wanted to create a surface that was both pleasing to the eye and allowed us to create custom content to accentuate the shapes.”
In order to balance the projection mapped wall, Student Life decided to use solely LED-based wash lights including 32 MAC 301s, MAC 101s and Chauvet LED batons through EMP. In the audio department, EMP provided two Midas Pro2C consoles to reinforce the diverse audio needs of the conference.
As a long standing client of Elite Multimedia, Student Life is proud to continue partnering with the production company.
“We have a long relationship with Elite, and they have always gone above and beyond to make sure we’re happy with our end product,” Brantley said. “Their personalized service and willingness to help in time sensitive circumstances make them an easy decision. We will never use anyone else.”
