VIDEO: AR Rahman: The Journey Home World Tour, Part 1:  A Look at The Stage And Video

Editor's note: This tour has suffered a postponement due to a rig collapse during set-up Saturday, June 19 in Pontiac, MI. Read about it here, and stay tuned for additional coverage on the tour's design.

As the composer of Slumdog Millionaire, AR Rahman won two Grammy Awards and two Oscars, so it’s no surprise he has undertaken a tour that features massive troupe of international singers, dancers, and some of the biggest names in concert design. Live Design went onsite to opening night at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, where production designer Butch Allen was understandably too busy to chat, but where we caught up with lighting designer Peter Morse, video designer Bob Bonniol of Mode Studios, and video programmer Sean Cagney. Also on the team are director/choreographer Amy Tinkham, lighting director/programmer Benny Kirham, and content creator Bo Sul Kim of Mode Studios.

Gear includes Christie Digital Roadster S+2-K projectors, Green Hippo Hippotizers, an EverBright LED screen, rigging and motion control from SGPS, with video equipment provided by VER and Screenworks NEP.

Check out our chat with Bob Bonniol below, as well as some show footage. Stay tuned for interviews with Peter Morse and Sean Cagney.
