Queen's Jubilee Kicks Off With Concert And Buckingham Palace Projections

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, a concert in front of Buckingham Palace in London included Kylie, Robbie Williams, Stevie Wonder, Sir Elton John, Madness, and Sir Paul McCartney performing on a crown-shaped stage built around the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of the Palace. Show designer Durham Marenghi and projection producer Sam Pattinson of Treatment Studio worked with a video setup for the palace projections supplied by XL Video UK, including a d3 visual production suite and 36 Barco HD 20K projectors. Palace architectural lighting was by Neg Earth.

Pattinson commissioned a laser-scan of the palace facade to create an accurate 3D model of the building, and then brought in artist Nils Porrmann in order to set up the d3 stage, providing a content template for the content. Pattinson also commissioned a number of animators to create the content.

d3 Consultancy, d3 Technologies’ in-house technical solutions team, assisted with the production, including sequencing to the music, synchronizing to timecode, and operating the show.
