CeeLo's Live Black-and-White TV On Stage

Lighting director for The Voice Daniel K. Boland of Team Boland Productions shares how he and lighting designer Oscar Dominguez of Darkfire Lighting Design created a live black-and-white television set effect for CeeLo for a rendition of "Dancing in the Streets" the coach sang with his team.

"Inside the TV, we used only blue light," says Boland. "The cameras were then adjusted to 'alpha out' the blue channel of light and replace it with black and white. Thus, anything blue would become black and white. That's why the lighting around the TV is all warm and without blue, because those bits would also turn black and white. Interesting to note is the reflection on the floor is also black and white." Check out the video (it's worth sitting through the commercial):

Nice work to The Voice lighting team.
