Avolites in Control at Coldplay

When Coldplay takes off on its eagerly anticipated Twisted Logic Tour at the end of the summer, their innovative show design will be controlled by two new Avolites Diamond 4 consoles. Lighting company Siyan purchased the consoles for show designer Bryan Leitch and LD Nick Whitehouse. The two designers have worked closely create a stunning show, and the tour should be one of the most visually exciting and technically advanced of the year.

As Avolites’ largest and most powerful console, the Diamond 4 Vision is loaded with eight universes of DMX, including large quantities of moving and generic lights plus assorted video sources, run through the desk triggering the new Radical Lighting NG1 high-definition digital media server.

"Apart from the fact that it’s one of the few consoles with the ability to run this many DMX Universes, it’s also great for hands on work, and being able to grab the elements you want and improvise immediately if you wish," says Whitehouse. "The D4 is definitely my desk of choice."

Avolites customized some specific software for the console at the request of Whitehouse and Leitch. Whitehouse also has a Diamond 4 Tablet PC on tour, which gives him portable wireless remote control of the entire lighting rig–via the graphical interface on screen–from anywhere in the room and is an invaluable tool for focussing and tweaking.

The North American leg of the band's 2005 tour will start in Canada on August 2nd and run through September. Coldplay’s third album X&Y hit stores in America yesterday.
