Audio-Technica Mikes Save The Music For VH1

The VH1 Save The Music Concert, which benefits VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, made use of Audio-Technica Artist Elite® 5000 Series UHF wireless system on lead vocals for artists including Alicia Keys and Rob Thomas. VH1 also employed A-T wireless and wired mikes in numerous other applications.

A-T Artist Elite 5000 Series Wireless additionally facilitated presentations by Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, Christina Applegate, and LL Cool J. The large selection of hardwired A-T microphones on hand included the AE2500 for bass guitar amps, ATM35 and AT4054 on horns, AT4051a for hi-hat and ride cymbal, AT4054 on background vocals, and AE5100 for audience.

Audio production mixer Al Centrella, whose credits include A&E Live By Request and The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame awards, chose a wide array of Audio-Technica microphones based on their stringent production values. "I started using Audio-Technica on Live By Request because most of the time the artist is in front of the PA and I need a natural-sounding mike with tremendous gain before feedback. That’s exactly what A-T delivers," explains Centrella.

XM Productions/Effanel music lead engineer Joel Singer concurs with Centrella’s criteria for microphone selection. "For critical applications such as high-profile award shows and location recording, I know we can count on A-T mics to deliver the consistency and great sound quality that we need," Singer remarked.

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America’s public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation’s youth. Since its inception in 1997, VH1 Save The Music has donated nearly $30 million worth of musical instruments to 1,200 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of more than 500,000 children.

Staged at Manhattan’s legendary Beacon Theater, the Save The Music Concert was held April 11, with VH1’s first airing of the broadcast Sunday, April 17. Audio Technica mikes were also used at the recent 47th Annual GRAMMY® Awards and the 2005 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
