Quince Imaging Broadcasts International Webcast for First Global's Robot Olympics

Washington, D.C., July 16, 2017 - In support of First Global’s inaugural International Robot Olympics for high school students, Quince Imaging provided projection, webcasting and other technical solutions to ensure smooth production and delivery of the live event, which was streamed worldwide throughout the duration, spanning from July 16th through July 18th at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

During the event, nearly 160 national teams competed in challenges designed to develop solutions to one of the world’s most pressing issues- water security. The Robot Olympics, founded by esteemed inventor Dean Kamen, was intended to spark interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and afford every child the opportunity to obtain necessary skills to create solutions to the world’s most critical problems. The international component of the event, closely aligned with First Global’s mission, states, “ By showing the youth of the world that if they learn how to communicate, cooperate, and work together using the tools of science and engineering to find solutions to the world’s grand challenges – water, energy, security, medicine, food and education – they will learn how to work with each other, trust each other, and become part of a truly global community.”

In keeping with First Global’s vision of connecting and serving as a global community, Quince Imaging collaborated with Ben Moore, Technical Director and Show Director, to engineer a seamless, engaging solution in real time to unite the Robot Olympics’ international audience of viewers. “We were able to do so by utilizing the same imaging methodology that we use in live events and sports venues,” explained Sean Hovan, Engineering Manager at Quince Imaging.

Adding a mobile, broadcast-media truck, Quince Imaging was able to design a portable, full-service suite of imaging and technical solutions, including projection displays, a 9-camera shoot, full CG package, Jitacam, and webcasting to serve First Global’s world-wide audience. Total live feeds, including Facebook Live and YouTube Live, grossed nearly 500,000 views, including countless interactions, comments and shares incorporating the hashtag #FGC2017 on social media platforms.

Hovan concluded, “First Global is an amazing organization with a profound mission devoted to providing education and fostering a sense of global community. Deploying our technical solutions to provide international viewers with a platform to connect and engage across livestreams and social media networks, was a rewarding experience, and we are proud to have contributed to the success of the event. We are hopeful that next years’ event in Mexico City will provide the same impact, if not greater!”

About FIRST Global
FIRST Global organizes a yearly international robotics challenge to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among the more than two billion youths across the world.
Established as a US-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity to provide the framework for an “Olympics”-style robotics challenge, FIRST Global invites one team from every nation to participate in an international robotics event that builds bridges between high school students with different backgrounds, languages, religions, and customs.
By bringing these future STEM leaders together in an engaging and collaborative competition that drives home the importance, excitement, and applicability of STEM education, FIRST Global inspires students to learn the skills they will need to make the discoveries their parents and grandparents would consider miracles, impossibilities, or just plain science fiction.
