PHOENIX, ARIZONA – More than 45,000 people turned out to the inaugural Lost Lake Festival at the Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, AZ for a three-day extravaganza of music, art, food and games. Superfly, the masterminds behind the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Outsidelands, Forecastle and others, entrusted longtime collaborator Bandit Lites to provide the lighting for the two mainstages, where performances included The Killers, Chance the Rapper, The Pixies, Huey Lewis & The News, The Roots, Dreamcar, Run the Jewels, Odesza and Major Lazer.
In addition to more than 40 musical acts taking the stage, the Lost Lake Festival also featured a culinary venture with James Beard Award winner Chris Bianco, which highlighted the flavors of Phoenix’s food scene, a BBQ center known as the “Lava Pit,” a Brew Park with nearly 30 craft brewers offering artisanal beers, a mezcal tasting experience, art show, children’s center and shopping.
Bandit Lites supplied the lighting package for the two main stages, the Camelback and Piestewa. “The main brief for the two SAM575 stages was to make them individual, so they each had their own character, and to make them logistically friendly for changeovers and any band lights or scenic pieces that would come in,” said Bandit Production Manager Dizzy Gosnell.
The Camelback stage had over 130 fixtures and featured Magic Panels, Rogue Hybrids, Cuepix WW2, VL6000 Beams and Illumipanel architectural washes controlled with a pair of grandMA2 full desks.
The Piestewa stage consisted another 120 fixtures including Clay Paky Mythos, Clay Paky Sharpys, VL3500 Washes, VL 3000 Spots, Flare, Illumipanel washes and DWE 4 lite fixtures, also controlled by two grandMA2 full size consoles.
Bandit’s crew for the three-day weekend included Vanessa Sexton, Brenna Rae, Jessie Hochinyavong, Joseph DiLeo, Ty Veneziano, Cody Cheatham and Jason Giaffo, with major support provided by Project Manager Gene Brian.
“The seven crew onsite really did a fantastic job of prepping, hanging and running the lighting systems,” added Gosnell. “There was a lot of tight tolerances in getting both large systems on the StageLine SAM575’s. Lamp spacing on both rigs was critical to the big looks looking big; one of my mantras has always been that a tape measure is just as important as a wrench and meter.”
The weekend was declared a huge success, as both those in attendance and those involved shared the festival’s first venture surpassed expectations. Bandit Lites is beyond proud to work with Hadden Hippsley, Richard Wold and Joe Gordon of Lambda Productions.
