Imperial War Museum Illuminated

CORE’s ColourPoint Mk 2 battery powered LED up-lighters were used to great effect by event production company Subfrantic to dramatically illuminate the Imperial War Museum London in Southwark!

The magnificent building - originally built 1812-14 as the Bethlem Hospital – was lit in red for Remembrance Day as it provided a charismatic venue for a high profile charity fundraising event staged by the City Veterans Network (CVN) to raise money for three different military service related charities.

Subfrantic provided full technical production – sound, lighting, video and staging – for the gala dinner event.

Twelve of the 24 ColourPoints were deployed to illuminate the six large Doric columns which are the central feature of the building’s portico entrance on Lambeth Road, explains Subfrantic’s Marcus Weatherley who designed lighting for the event.

The other 12 were used to skim up the tall white columns of the newly redeveloped atrium inside the main building which provided an atmospheric backdrop to the dinner. The fabulous resulting luminescent glow also reflected off the various flying exhibits above the space which included some classic military hardware including a V1 flying bomb, a V2 rocket, a Spitfire and a Harrier jump jet.

Bathing the striking atrium – unveiled in 2014 - in vibrant red brought an additional resonance to an already striking environment and imaginative lighting for the whole event, including that provided by both sets of ColourPoints, helped set the tone for a really successful evening attended by several celebrities including actress Liz Hurley.

This first such CVN event resulted in an impressive six figure sum being raised for leading veteran’s mental health charity Combat Stress; Blesma, which helps limbless veterans and their families, and SkillForce, which uses the experience and values of ex-Forces personnel to help inspire young people.

Subfrantic purchased their ColourPoint fixtures about a year ago and these have been in constant use ever since on a wide variety of events serviced by the South London based company.

“We needed LED uplighters as they are useful in so many different scenarios,” said Subfrantic’s MD Stephen Davies, “And after looking at all the options, chose the CORE product because it was lightweight, the battery life and output are excellent and the units are aesthetically pleasing”.

He adds that having an industry recognised premium brand like CORE - which is manufactured in the UK – on-board and available from stock also makes a statement about the serious quality of Subfrantic’s own business.

“Many of our clients will request CORE’s products by name,” confirms Stephen, “and our aim is to offer the best possible standards in all of the products and services we offer”.

CORE’s ColourPoint Mk 2 fixture is a lightweight IP65 rated battery powered LED event up-lighter with full wireless DMX control. It comes complete with a selection of inbuilt sequences for the option of stand-alone control, PWM control for flicker-free operation on camera and a smooth, homogenised light-engine for superior quality output.
