Dave Matthews Holds Benefit Concert To Support Standing Rock

Washington, D.C., November 27: More than 3,000 people attended the Stand with Standing Rock Benefit Concert on November 27th, 2016, in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline that threatens to impede upon sacred lands; damage the water supply; and ultimately endanger the lives of the Sioux people.  All proceeds from the benefit, which sold out in just one day, will be donated to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to help safeguard the rights of its Indigenous people and prevent pipeline construction.

In a passionate plea on his Tumblr blog, Dave Matthews stated, “How can we continue to allow oil money to dictate our environmental and social policies?  The people of Standing Rock, and people standing with them, are standing up for their children.  They’re standing up for all of our children.  We are letting the Dakota pipeline silence their voices.  Not only are they desecrating sacred lands, but they also threaten to poison the Missouri River.  Oil is not safe.  If we let this happen, we should be ashamed of our country”.

The benefit concert, hosted by Dave Matthews, featured members of the Standing Rock, Lakota Sioux Tribe as well as an eclectic group of musicians from various genres, including Ledisi, Neko Case and Graham Nash, along with Dave Matthew’s longtime stage companion, Tim Reynolds.  The all-star lineup came to life on the stage of a National Historic Landmark: Washington D.C.’s largest concert venue, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Constitution Hall.  Uplifting images and phrases were brilliantly projected onto the backdrop, lighting up the evening while spreading messages of inspiration and encouragement in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Filament Productions, the full-service, Charlottesville, Virginia-based video production company and patron vendor of Dave Matthews Band tours, contacted Quince Imaging to deliver projection services for the benefit concert.  Premier Washington, D.C.-based projection company, Quince Imaging, was proud to partner with Filament Productions and deliver projection services for the benefit.  Stand with Standing Rock is a cause that continues to advocate for tribal sovereignty and the preservation of sacred lands.

About Stand with Standing Rock
The Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation is home to Dakota and Lakota people of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.  Since time immemorial, they have lived and governed a vast territory throughout North and South Dakota, and parts of Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Currently, the Tribe is located in central North and South Dakota.

The Tribe filed litigation in federal court in the District of Columbia to challenge the actions of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, undo the approval of the pipeline, and enforce their federally protected rights and interests. The lawsuit alleges that the Army Corps violated multiple federal statutes, including the Clean Water Act, National Historic Protection Act, and National Environmental Policy Act, when it issued the permits. The Army Corps has failed to follow the law—both regarding the risk of oil spills and the protection of their sacred places. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is also a part of the lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. For more information, visit: standwithstandingrock.net
