Charlotte Lockyer, Engineer At TAIT, Receives ABTT ‘Technician Of The Year’ Award

TAIT and ABTT Theatre Show Celebrate “Women in Engineering”

(London) Charlotte Lockyer, Head of Controls for Rentals at TAIT, earns highest distinction, Technician of the Year, at ABTT Theatre Show. The award is one of the most important accolades the Association of British Theatre Technicians bestows. It recognises the achievement of an individual who is still in the heart of their career but who has consistently delivered technical excellence.

The ABTT is exceptionally pleased to present Charlotte with the Technician of the Year Award for 2017.  The presentation was made at the annual ABTT Theatre Show at Alexandra Palace in north London where she was presented with the coveted ABTT Hook-clamp trophy engraved with her name and year won. The presentation was made by ABTT Chairwoman Louise Jeffreys, Head of Arts at the Barbican Centre in London and Robin Townley, ABTT Chief Executive. Townley shared, “the ABTT exists to promote technical excellence in live performance and we believe in acknowledging examples of best practice whenever we can.  We seek to support the technical and production sector by engaging and enabling technical practitioners and product suppliers.  We are so pleased when we can recognise individuals who are leading the way with best practice in any of the backstage disciplines.  Charlotte is a fantastic recipient of the Technician of the Year Award, who although is only just into her career, has already established a tremendous reputation among her peers and delivered at an incredibly high and consistent level.  I congratulate her wholeheartedly on her achievement and the greatly deserved recognition that the ABTT Technician of the Year Award symbolises.”

As Head of Controls for Rentals, Charlotte leads teams in installing, commissioning and programming many varied productions in the UK and Overseas. She has worked on over 35 different shows and while at TAIT she has engineered many shows including The Jersey Boys Tour (2014), Curious Incident (2014), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2014), Made In Dagenham (2014), Elf The Musical (2014 & 2015), Bend It Like Beckham (2015), Mother of the Nation Ceremony in Abu Dhabi (2016), Dubai World Cup at the Meydan Racecourse (2016), Showboat (2016), Dreamgirls (2016), 42nd Street (2016), Big The Musical (2016), Angels in America at the National Theatre (2017), Woyzeck at the Old Vic (2017). She has also worked on films such as Mission: Impossible 5, Star Wars Episode VII, Mission: Impossible 6, Jurassic World, Star Wars Episode VIII, Mary Poppins, Jurassic World 2.

Charlotte’s experience paired with her work ethic and innate leadership skills have impressed many, “she has a fantastic understanding of the theatrical process and quickly gains the trust and respect from some of our most discerning production and artistic teams,” quips Ted Moore, Director of Rental Services at TAIT. 

Charlotte was honoured and privileged to receive the award and shared words of gratitude to her mentors and words of wisdom to her peers, “I have worked with some very supportive and nurturing people during my career and I couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without their help and guidance. I believe, if you have the motivation and devotion to your chosen path and the humility to learn from those around you, then you can achieve amazing things.”
